Snow and Snow and More Snow

February has brought A TON of snow to the Boston area. Two weeks ago, Ninong (Jose) came for a long weekend. He arrived the day before the blizzard (also known as Nemo). And thank goodness he did because he was a big help with cooking, shoveling, and babysitting. Here are a few photos from the weekend of the blizzard with Jose. (Click on the photos to enlarge.)
Veronica & Ninong ready to brave the snow!

Snow blocking the screen door.

Adrian, Veronica and Jose starting to dig the cars out. That lump to the right next to the bushes is Jose's car.

Veronica plays while Adrian and Jose shovel. And shovel. And shovel. And shovel some more. The snow was too high for the snow blower. Which was fine considering it was buried under the snow!

Taking a break from digging out.

Mommy and Max venturing out.

Jose's car has been freed from its snowy cocoon!

Our older car, the front of which is completely buried in a snow drift. Our snow blower is in there somewhere.

We got over 2 feet of snow. The snow was definitely taller than Veronica in some places.

Ninong goofing around.

Daddy relaxing in a patio chair. Veronica armpit-deep in snow.

Snow bunny!

Max and Ninong watching us from inside the living room.

Rain was forecast for the next few days, so Adrian got up on the flat part of our roof to clear off the snow. Here he is clearing off the sky light.

Ninang (Elyse) came to visit the following weekend and guess what? We had another snowstorm! Not as much snow as the previous weekend (thank goodness), but still a decent amount.
Elyse and Veronica building snow men.

We went for a hike in the Fells. The area behind us is all water.

Apparently, Elyse and I had no idea we had just walked underneath this downed tree.

Veronica preferred to ride.

And here's a video of Adrian and Veronica sledding down a hill in the Fells. I'm holding the camera and carrying Max, you can hear both of us out of frame.

As I write this post, it is snowing AGAIN, for the third weekend in a row! The snow is pretty, but I'm ready for spring! For more snowy photos from the past few weeks, click here.

Veronica Daycare Photo: Space & Haircut!

Hello Preschool Families,
Today during circle we continued our topic of space and viewed pictures of all of the planets in our solar system and discussed them. We then all worked on painting a planet mobile, which will be hung up in the classroom when they're dry! The children had a great time playing with our new rocket launchers. They loved screaming "3, 2, 1, blast off!" We also had  a sensory table open for the kids to explore the "moon dust" and rocks. The last activity the the children engaged in was creating the letter W with their bodies. Four children laid down on the floor creating the letter of the week! It has been a very busy day in preschool but all of the children seem to really love this week's space curriculum!
all activities above fostered social, language, fine and gross motor development.

We have attached pictures from today's haircut crew! These kids look so stylish with their new hair!
If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns please don't hesitate to let us know!
Hope everyone is having a great day,
Preschool Team

Hello Parents,
This weeks lesson on gravity is going great! Today during circle we talked about why a bubble floats and a ball falls. Friends asked questions and responded to the question, "What happens to each object." We then talked about how this was an example of how gravity works. We continued these activities by dropping different objects into play doh and seeing what happened. The heavier objects made a deeper hole than the lighter ones. The children also used scales to measure what was heavier and lighter. We did a tissue paper collage so the children could see how light the paper was and watch it float to the ground if they dropped it. In the science area some friends work on their math skills with a counting puzzle. And we even made it outside to play in the snow! We had a very productive and fun morning! Enjoy the pictures.
Thank you,
Lauren, Aisha, and Claudia

Hello Parents!
We had a fun-filled morning starting with circle! We talked about the letter S and made a word list. The children had so many S words, after that we played with sea animals, practiced hockey in the block corner, and manipulated snow playdoh. Take a look at the pictures! Thank you!

Hello Families,
Today in preschool we talked about hibernation. All of the children contributed during circle, stating something that they knew about hibernation. We also talked about different animals that hibernate and where they go to sleep. We read two books during circle that lead into our art activity. We talked about how in the winter, it snows, and when it snows, we leave foot prints. The children connected the dots and immediately knew that animals too leave a track while going into their habitats. After reading the books Big Tracks, Little Tracks and Foot Prints in the Snow, we created our own animal foot prints in the "snow." The children glued snow, caves, and an animal to their paper. They then picked an animal toy to dip in white paint to create the foot prints. Check out the pictures attached!
Today's activities fostered language, social, and fine motor development.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Aisha and Claudia
