Max's First Dentist Visit

Here are a few photos from Max's first visit to the dentist. This was back in January 2014. Veronica went first to show Max just how much fun and easy it is to go to the dentist. She knew he was watching her so she very kindly put on a show. Check out that smile!
They even give you cool shades to keep the water from splashing into your eyes while your teeth are being cleaned. She's a total movie star.
Max was a bit skeptical at first, but he did very well.
His first trip to the dentist went off without any crying, thank goodness!

Happy Easter!

First thing this morning, Veronica and Max hunted for the baskets the Easter Bunny left for them. Veronica was very good with helping Max find his basket. Thankfully, Max seemed a bit more interested in the toys than the candy, but Veronica could not wait to get her teeth on the solid chocolate princess bunny she got.

After breakfast, we had a spirited Easter egg hunt around the house. Again, Veronica was (mostly) good about letting Max find some of the eggs. As soon as he figured out what the deal was, he was a man on a mission. He didn't quite believe us when we said all the eggs had been found, and kept looking for more.

After the egg hunt we all headed out to brunch. The kids looked so adorable all dressed up for Easter.

Patricia & Adrian,
Here are some photos of Max. He was looking inside the tube and we took his photo. Today we also  practiced pouring water in a bottle and dropping water beads in a funnel into the bottle.  He enjoyed watching the beads fall into the water and shaking up the bottle to see the beads swirl around.

Veronica Daycare Photos: First Day in Pre-K!

Due to an unexpected vacancy, Veronica was able to transition to pre-kindergarten, which only has 7 students in it. She's really enjoying it and has adapted very well to being the new kid in the class (the other 6 students transitioned last September).

Subject: Tap Dancing!

Hello Preschool Families
Today we focused on tap dancing! We talked about how tap dancers often use props, wear special shoes, and move really fast to make sounds with their feet. During circle time we actually learned how to do a tap move (a shuffle) and the children loved it! After circle we have morning activities that corresponded with tap dancing. We created canes, wore hats, and made our very own tap shoes. Attached you will find pictures of circle time (learning how to shuffle) AND a picture of the group actually watching a tap dancing performance. The children have really seemed to love this week's curriculum!

Today's activities fostered : Gross motor, social, language, and cognitive development.

Hope everyone is having a great day,
Aisha

Hello Preschool Families,
Today we had an AMAZING circle. The children were incredibly engaged and loved showing off their dance moves. We talked about Ballet and where it originated from (France) We also talked about how the terms in ballet are actually in French. Some children already had some ballet experience so they helped us create a vocabulary list. Together we came up with:
The Nutcracker (Famous receital)
Arabesque (Leg stretched back)
Plié (Bent knees)
Pirouette (single twirl)

We then learned the first five positions in ballet! We looked at pictures and had it demonstrated by Aisha, Audrey A, Audrey R, Veronica, Alanya, Yael, and Lila. Everyone had a chance to show off their moves and we all had a great time. Please see the picture attached of our friends practicing an arabesque!

Today's circle time fostered gross motor skills, language, and social development. Social studies was included as well!

Hope everyone is having a great day!
Aisha

Ps: Make sure to check your child's daily notebook for more pictures from today's activities!

Hello Parents!

Here are some snap shots from this morning. The children made their own train and followed each other up the climber, over the tunnel, and down the slide. Then we fed our class fish and said hello to him. Before lunch we painted with hammers and big sponges.

Enjoy!

Hello Preschool Families,
Today we continued our conversation around visual art. Today during circle we focused on mosaics. We learned what a mosaic was and asked the children if they've ever seen any before. Claudia showed three examples of mosaics and for morning activities, we mirrored what we saw. We created a mosaic rainbow, table, and collage. Along with all of these art projects, we also had a writing space open for children to practice writing the letter of the week (U). Please see pictures attached! The children have really enjoyed engaging in the art activities all week long.
We hope everyone is having a great day!
Aisha

Hello Parents,

Today the children played with babies and doctor kits! We gave them each their own little kit with doctor supplies and a baby. Some of the children tried the stethoscope on while others tried putting them on the babies. We showed them examples of what each thing in the kit was for by using the babies. Most of the friends really enjoyed opening and closing the kits.

Veronica Daycare : Winter Activities

Subject: Today in preschool

Hello Preschool Families,

Today was a very busy morning for our all of our friends. We spent about 30 minutes at circle time talking about winter activities, words that begin with S, and what we did during the snow day. Attached you will find two pictures of our discussions of today's circle. The children stated what they knew about ice skating and skiing as well as what they need to be prepared for those sports. For ice skating, the children stated that we needed skates, ice, helmets, hats, coats, and gloves to be ready to go ice skating. They also said that it was up to the skater whether they wanted to go fast or slow. As for skiing, the children said that we needed skis, ski poles, helmets, masks, and goggles to be ready for skiing. They also said that this sport was a sport that ALWAYS went fast.

As for our S list, the words we came up with were:

·         Snake

·         Sports

·         Snow

·         Ski

·         Sledding

·         Sea

·         Seagull

·         Sleep

·         Snowboard

Tomorrow we will read the S book to determine  what other "S" words we can add to our list.

The last thing we did at circle before choosing spaces was sharing with their peers what they did over yesterday's snow day. Here are their answers

Ben- Played outside. I made snow angels. I also went on the purple line.

Yael- I played with Doria. We played with Ariel dolls.

Lila- I watched kitten and caboodle. I also played with Bridget.

Audrey R- I watched Belle all by myself. Ella didn't even watch with me.

Eric U- I  made snow angels with mom and dad.

Alanya- I watched Beauty and the Beast.

Eric N- Made snowman that was higher.

Felix- I shoved the snow with daddy.

Charlie- I played hockey with mommy and daddy.

Veronica- I went to a movie theatre to watch Frozen. I played with Mia, too.

Audrey A- I took a bath and played with my bath baby.

Ethan- Ice skating.

Wyeth- I go to grandma and pop-pops house and watched Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

Zofia-  I goed to my grandparents' house and played with Aleki.

Activities above fostered social, language,  and cognitive development.

Subject: Our week in preschool!

Hello Families,

What an amazing week we had! The book It's Snowing, taught us that there are almost always six sides to a snowflake! New vocabulary was introduced the water cycle, evaporation, ice crystals and particles. Check out our science board display, with our art projects, fine motor and group activities we displayed what we learned about the snow.
It's winter and it's snowing what is happening to all the animals? On Tuesday we introduced more vocabulary migrate and adapt in addition to hibernate. The traffic light colors were used to assimilate what the actions the animals are taking during the winter. Check out our chart in the block area as we have sorting different animals that migrate, adapt and hibernate.
On Wednesday we read Bear feels Scared,  this story gave us the opportunity to connect our social emotional health. We talked about different emotions during our feelings song. We also had the chance to recognize and paint what makes us feel scared, just like the bear in the story. As we learned that brown bears hibernate in caves, we made individual caves and use them to "hibernate" along with other hibernating caves.
Polar Bears live in the north pole and live in dens. The  north pole is the coldest place on earth therefore polar bears need fat and fur to keep them warm. The children took part in an insulator experiment. http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/blubber-gloves This experiment allowed the children to experience how the fat (flubber) keep the polar bears warm. Check out our polar bear facts on the board in the block area! Also be sure to take home your child's igloo's/ dens on top of the sensory table! They all worked very hard on them!
What are recyclables? In the story SNOWBALL we learned that we are able to create and use recyclables to assemble a snowman. The children really enjoyed assembling and creating their own snowman with the use of some recyclables! We also made and use black silly putty because our winter nights are longer! Another very popular sensory activity was water and different tools!
Last but not least our letter of the week was Q and we used different pattern fabrics to make our letter Q quilts!

Have a great weekend!

Veronica Daycare Photos: Migrate, Adapt, Hibernate

Subject: January 7,2014

Hello Families,

Have you ever been on a bear hunt? Were you afraid?  Preschoolers went on a pretend bear hunt with the use of our imaginations! It was quite an experience. Followed by creating 3D binoculars to continue on our imagination trips. During circle we introduced MIGRATE and ADAPT in addition to HIBERNATE. We used the traffic light colors to make a connection with each category, as we charted animals that migrate, adapt and hibernate.  As animals that migrate, go (green) to a warmer environment. Animals that adapt slow down (like the yellow light), as the winter gets too cold to go out much. And animals that hibernate stop(red light) and go to sleep. During choice time we also created 3D bear caves to be used with small hibernating animals during free play, the individual caves will be coming home soon. And finally we used our eye hand coordination to pour water onto different measuring cups and practice our fine motor.

Have a great day,

Arelhy
