Weeks of 4/16 - 4/27

This Month's Theme: Myths & Legends
Classroom Update:

The past two weeks have been so eventful in our classroom! We have created so many wonderful projects and went on so many awesome field trips during April Vacation week! We burned some energy at Simonds Park in Burlington. We learned a ton about wild animals at the Franklin Park Zoo. We mixed and made our own homemade pasta and salad with Kids' Cooking Green and we finished the week in awe from the performers at the Big Apple Circus.

We had a visit from Kidstock and did a workshop on mythological tales! Next week we will begin collecting donations for the Winchester Hospital's pediatric and "tween" units (ages 0-12yo). They are in need of new card games, board games and books! All donated items must be brand new and unopened, the hospital can not accept used items. Donations can be made in the bin located in the front hallway near the K-1 room. If you have any questions, please see a K-1 room teacher.

For those who don't already know, Kids' Corner is a non profit organization which can benefit from your shopping when you use our Amazon Smile link! Kids' Corner will receive a percentage back from your purchases when you set us up as your benefitting charity. Please see the "Donate to KC" button at the bottom of the newsletter!

Reminders/Upcoming Dates:

  • April 2nd-April 30th - Kids' Corner artwork will be on display at the Winchester Public Library on the top floor in the display case.
  • Wednesday, May 9th- Drumlin Farm will be visiting the K-1 room from 4:35-5:05pm
  • Friday, May 11th- Early Release Day- K-1 Room will be visiting the Boston Children's Museum. We will be leaving at 1:30 and returning around 4:30pm. Please plan pick ups accordingly.
BIG GROUP ACTIVITIES
For Big Group Game, we played Cat and Mouse with the parachute! The kids took turns being either a mouse hiding under the parachute, or a cat trying to tag the mouse from above the parachute while the rest of the class shook the parachute to make it harder to find the mouse!
PROJECTS
The warmer weather is finally here and has inspired many spring themed projects the last few weeks! The kids made their own paper plate rainbows, decorated miniature kites and made their own fairy houses. We also continued with some mythical and magical projects. The kids decorated their own greek vases and transformed into unicorns with paper horns! We baked up some delicious blueberry muffins and as always, we had a variety of fun sports!

Thailand #5: Jim Thompson & Chatuchuk

The next day in Bangkok included a visit and lunch at the Jim Thompson House. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take photos inside the house, but the grounds are gorgeous and lunch was delicious.

After the Jim Thompson House, we went home to clean up and headed back out for drinks at the Portuguese Residence with the Portuguese Ambassador and his husband, then we all took a ferry trip across the river for dinner.

The following day we tested our shopping mettle at the sweltering Chatuchuk market. It was hotter than Hades, but an unforgettable experience!

The swimming pool felt super refreshing after the market. We also took a tour of the business half of the Swiss Residence. We admired Tito Ivo's office and headed out for a dim sum dinner at Din Tai Fung!
