Max Daycare Photos: Music With Philip

Hello families,

    We want to send some pictures that we took yesterday with Philip.  The children enjoyed the various instruments that he played.  Some joined in while others were a little more cautious and enjoyed listening instead  Hope you enjoy them!

Luckily, I was able to come down to the daycare (I love that it's just downstairs at work) for the last half of the music session with Philip. You can see from the look on Max's face that he had a great time listening and jumping to Philip's singing and music.

 

 

Boston Blink!

We had a jam-packed weekend with Lola and Gramps. Last Friday evening we went to Boston Blink! at Faneuil Hall. It's hard to describe so I'll just cut and paste the blurb from the website (www.bostonblinks.com): "Blink! featuring the music of the Holiday Pops, is a 6-week state-of-the-art light and sound extravaganza that has transformed every inch of America's first open marketplace. This magical and unforgettable new holiday tradition uses over 350,000 LED lights to illuminate Boston’s skyline. Blink! is a must-see holiday show, perfect for all ages."
We had a marvelous time, despite a few sprinkles of rain. This is the first year of what is supposed to be a new holiday tradition. We enjoyed it so much we hope to go back at least one more time before it closes for the season. You can click on the photos to enlarge them.

Winchester Tree Lighting 2012

Here are a few photos of our town's annual tree lighting event. The festivities take place on the Town Common and are kicked off by the local 6th graders singing carols accompanied by the marching band. After the carols, the town fire trucks make a loop around the Town Common, sirens blaring and lights flashing, carrying a waving Santa Claus on the back of the truck with the big ladder on it. As Santa Clause loops around the Common, the trees light up, one by one. It's really quite a production for our little town and the kids love it. After making the loop, Santa's truck parks next to the Common and there is a line to see him and take a photo, and, of course, whisper in his ear what you'd like for Christmas. Veronica had a great time (scary, white-haired, bearded, fat guy in a red suit notwithstanding). This year we were lucky to have my mom and stepfather visiting so they were able to join us. I think they had a great time, too.

A Visit With Santa

Our friends host a Visit With Santa Party every December (thank goodness, since it means we can avoid the mall!). Veronica is not a big fan of Santa, despite being a big fan of his presents, so we were trying to talk up Santa prior to the party. To no avail. This was the closest she would get to Santa. Check out the look on her face. Very suspicious of Santa.

We thought maybe we might get a good photo of Max with Santa. This is what we got. At least he didn't cry, but he definitely did not want to stay in Santa's lap.

The closest she got to Santa at the party was the blow-up Santa out front:

I realized I have these two very similar photos of my beautiful babies, each taken when they were 6 months old. I thought it would be fun to compare them. It's pretty easy to tell who is whom. Can you?

I know I am biased, but they are gorgeous. 

Max Daycare Photo: Water Play

Good afternoon families,

 

         We had a fun busy day in Infant One today.  We did some water play this morning with our friends that can sit up on their own.  They spent alot of time splashing and exploring the water.  We added some cups and toys for them to manipulate.  The toys went in and out of the water a lot.  They all seemed to enjoy this sensory activity.  The younger babies enjoyed playing on the mat and singing songs with their teachers.  Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Veronica Daycare Photo: What Do You See?

Hello Families,

Today during circle we read Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See by Bill Martin Jr. All of the children helped me read the story by looking at the pictures. This interactive story got the children so excited and they began to tell me all of the things that they saw. After circle all of the children helped create a classroom book called Preschool Preschool What Do You See? Attached you will find pictures of your children working on their page of something that they saw. By By the end of this week you all came come to the classroom to check out the book!

Ready for Christmas!

We hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. We're all very excited about Christmas! When Adrian turned the lights on on the tree, Veronica said, "Wow." Wow, indeed.

Veronica Says: Go Together

Me: Veronica, do you know what I'm thankful for?

Veronica: What?

Me: I'm thankful for my two beautiful babies.

Adrian: Yes, Daddy's thankful for that, too.

Veronica: No, Mommy!

Me: No? Why not?

Veronica: Because a girl and a boy don't go together!

Me: Really? Well, who goes together?

Veronica: A girl goes with a girl and a boy goes with a boy.

Adrian: You must go to school in Cambridge.

Veronica Daycare Photo: Pet Store Adventure!

Parents,

Our walk to the Pet Store was a great success! We saw mice, just like Frederick and his family. We talked about which ones looked like Frederick and what we thought they felt like. Veronica Daycare Photos: Yoga!

Hello Parents,

 

 Today we introduced yoga to the children. Some of the friends knew what yoga was and explained that their parents did yoga. We talked about the importance of exercising and how it keeps us healthy. Yoga for kids is a great way of incorporating fun and fine tuning motor coordination. Yoga can be beneficial to all children and we are going to try to practice yoga more often in our classroom. Veronica Daycare Photos: The Bookstore!

Hello Families,

 

Hope you're all enjoying the weather. Today we took a nice walk across the street to the COOP Bookstore. To go along with our curriculum theme for this week, we looked for some Dr. Seuss books, and we found some! We read Green Eggs and Ham, a Dr. Suess story we hadn't read in class. The friends were very excited to go to the bookstore and enjoy some time reading there. Enjoy the pictures!

Today in preschool we learned about a new author for our author study of the month. This week we will be talking about and reading all of Eric Carle's books. Attached you will find a short clip of circle time today. Claudia chose to read an interactive Eric Carle book to do with the children. Today was also a music with Phillip day. Attached there is also a picture of music with Phillip!

Hello Preschool Families,

To continue our curriculum on Dr. Seuss, today during circle, we read the book Fox in Socks. All of the children had a great time listening to all of the silly words and tongue twisters. One space that was open after circle was creating sock puppets. Attached you will find a picture of your child holding up their sock puppet. In the afternoon, the chldren will get the opportunity to make their sock puppet say some of the silly tongue twisters that we read in the book.

Veronica Daycare Photo: Make Your Own Hat

Hello Again,

   Today we had a great morning. Once again, we are learning about Jan Brett and the letter H. During circle we talked about what sound letter H makes and we traced it by following dots. We also read The Hat, during free play we had a "Make you own hat activity" and we also retold the story with The Hat character masks. We did another great fine motor activity with tongs and pom poms. We picked up the pom poms with tongs and moved them into different bowls. This is a great way to strengthen our pincer grip and small muscles in the hand to eventually gain enough strength to write. We had a fun filled morning, enjoy the pictures!

Halloween in Winchester

Last weekend we participated in our town's annual Halloween festivities. Gramps was visiting for the weekend so we had lots of good photos taken. It's rare to have a photo with all four of us in it, but here's a good one that Gramps took:

Boston LeBuffes

Veronica dressed up as her favorite character, Doc McStuffins! Here she is posing with her stethoscope, doctor's bag, doctor's coat (which is embroidered with "Dr. LeBuffe" above the chest pocket!), and Stuffy the dragon. Doc McStuffins is a new Disney character. She is a little girl who is a doctor to her stuffed animals and toys, and she wants to be a doctor when she grows up, just like her mother. She gives her stuffed animals and toys check-ups, makes diagnoses of their ailments, and fixes them up!

Doc McStuffins says, "Time for your check-up!"

This is a photo of just some of the many families waiting to participate in the Halloween parade. Some of the other costumes were really neat. A family of four dressed up as the band KISS, complete with face make-up on everyone, including the toddler in the stroller. I should have taken a photo.

The weather was fantastic and quite warm for this time of year. Max had a great time!

The parade ended in the town center, where all of the stores were handing out candy. Here we are in the ice cream shop.

It was a bit of a zoo in town, but Max didn't seem to mind all the noise and craziness of the sugar-loaded kids running around.

After trick-or-treating at the stores, we headed to the Farmers' Market on the Town Common.

 We picked up some veggies for the week, then headed to Town Hall for the Halloween party!

After a very busy morning parading, trick-or-treating, marketing, face painting, and pumpkin decorating, we headed back home. On our way home is great park that happened to have a big pile of leaves just waiting to be played with:
