Reminders

Winter is coming on strong this weekend. Please remember to pack snow pants, gloves/mittens and boots. The sleds will be out next week!
Projects
Paper mache planets, 2-ingredient clay, DIY game boards and paper fold-out animals were some of the projects keeping us busy in the 2-3 room. We also started Mini Courses this month, and they have been off to a great start. Weaving, Stop Animation, Clay, and Sports and Games are just a few of the offerings this year.
The Starry Messenger
Galileo Galilei came to Kids Corner to tell us about his experiments and his newest invention, the telescope. The kids were transported back to the year 1612 as he told many stories about discoveries he made in our own solar system, and beliefs shared by his peers at the time.

Dad's 70th Birthday in NYC, Dec 2018

For my dad's 70th birthday this year, we all met in NYC and had a weekend full of good wine and food and company. Brunch on Saturday was at Union Square Cafe, a great place close to Jose and Erik's condo. After lunch we headed over to Downtown Brooklyn with Erik's dad Randy to check out Erik's current project. We oohed and aahed over the finishes, floor plans, and models. The birthday dinner was at il Buco, a fantastic Mediterranean-Italian restaurant (click that link to go to the website, the top photo is the table where we sat!) Everything was delicious, but the highlight of the meal was the 40-ounce ribeye special that we all shared. It was definitely one of the best steaks I've ever had. And we totally devoured it! We also gave Dad a photo album that Jose put together with our two weddings (17 years apart!) bookending the family photos. On Sunday, we toasted Dad's birthday with champagne, then Veronica gave a recorder concert for him. For lunch we went to Rosa Mexicana where we met Janay and Maurice, who coincidentally were visiting NYC for Maurice's birthday that weekend. Janay is a friend of mine (and Adrian's and Jose's) from TJ and we hadn't seen each other since early 2012! It was great to catch up, but the time was entirely too short! Happy 70th birthday Dad/Lilong!

Thanksgiving Weekend 2018

My mother and Gramps came up for Thanksgiving last November. There were only six of us but we still had a full Thanksgiving dinner. Mom baked 2 pies and most of the sides, and Gramps made the soup. I prepped the turkey and Adrian cooked it in the Big Green Egg. This is very convenient since it frees up the oven for everything else. While the bird was cooking, Adrian, Gramps and the kids went for a frozen walk in the Fells. This year we actually remembered to take family photos. Veronica also provided a little entertainment with her recorder. Our tradition for Friday is to get our Christmas tree at the local garden center. Since we don't spend Christmas at home, we like to enjoy the tree for as long as possible before we leave. We let the tree open up for a day, then the kids had fun decorating it with their ornaments. On Sunday we went ice skating with family friends. It was Max's first time and Veronica's third, and they did very well considering their friends were with good skaters. While we skated my mom baked cookies that the kids decorated when we got home. All-in-all, a very good Thanksgiving weekend!
