NYE 2019 & Skiing Sugarbush Jan 2020

After the Christmas festivities in Lancaster, we came home to celebrate New Year's Eve at the BFAB (Boston Fil-Am Book Club) annual NYE party. All of our BFAB meetings are potluck, and I managed to find a fresh coconut to put in the Filipino fruit salad that I made. The food, as always, was Filipino and fantastic. And no Filipino party is complete without karaoke! We are lucky in that this annual party takes place literally a 5-minute drive away from our house, which makes it super easy for us and the kids.

After NYE, we headed up to Sugarbush in Vermont for some skiing and (for Adrian) craft beer! The kids have really taken to skiing. They are both much better skiers than I am, and almost better than Adrian at this point. We're not great skiers, so that's not saying much, but they are definitely more fearless than the both of us!

Christmas 2019 in Lancaster

Last Christmas, we all headed to Lancaster, PA for the week of Christmas. Erik grew up in Lancaster and has a lot of family there, so Jose and Erik wanted to invite our family to spend the holidays with Erik's family. The Friday before we left for Lancaster, Veronica's school had a little Christmas concert in front of the main office before the school day began. Max's class had their holiday party, which the parents were invited to.

On Saturday, we drove down to Lancaster and did a little exploring in the area. Erik and Jose had rented a lovely, massive house in the middle of town called the Fahnestock House. Sunday was dinner followed by the Dirty Santa gift exchange. Monday was spent at Hershey Park, the highlight of which was the Kissing Tower. We had a gorgeous 360-degree view of the park and surrounding area all lit-up for Christmas. That evening, Adrian and I had a date night at John J Jeffries (yay!). The food and wine were fantastic. On Tuesday (Xmas Eve), we walked down to the Lancaster market and had brunch during the day, then went to Aunt Jodie's for her annual Pierogi Christmas Eve Dinner.

On Christmas Day we had the big potluck Christmas dinner at the Fahnestock. What was really great about the house was that each unit had its own kitchen so we were all able to contribute something to Christmas dinner without being jammed in one kitchen, fighting over the stove and oven. There was so much food, and it was all delicious!

The following day we had brunch at the Belvedere Inn, then went as a big group to the movie theater to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Friday was spent in nearby Lititz, where we took a tour of the pretzel factory and bought lots of chocolate at Wilbur Chocolate (apparently the chocolate we ate at Hershey Park just wasn't enough). On Sunday, Jose took us to see Peter Pan at the Fulton Theatre. As you can see, it was a jam-packed week in Lancaster full of family activities thanks to our amazing hosts, Jose, Erik, and Charlie!
