Hello Preschool Families,
Today during circle we continued our conversation around Winter. Some of the children shared some of their favorite winter activities, but all of the children shared a fact that they knew about winter. We then read the book In The Snow where it focused on animal foot prints in the snow, on the hunt for food. Attached you will find the children’s facts about winter. We will further continue this conversation for the rest of January.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
Happy New Year!

Subject: Our week at TSC

Hello preschool families,

During the week of December 16-20th the preschool class has focused on the author Jan Brett. Some interesting facts we learned: she is from MA, her birthday is December 1, and she writes about feelings. Also in her illustrations she shows us foreshadowing. Therefore the children were able to predict what was happening next. We read The Mitten and The Hat. During Wednesday’s curriculum we read Sometimes I am Bombaloo, a book that talks about feelings. As Jan incorporates feelings in her books.  To extend on Bombaloo we also talked about problem solving techniques. Taking 3 deep breathes, calm down, think about the problem and think about a solution. Check out the book corner for our problem resolution aids. The preschoolers have also had the opportunity  to become authors and illustrators of two books Our Feelings and A Mitten.  Publishing to follow!
Our dramatic play area was transformed into a cave where children had the opportunity to reenact the story The Mitten. Animal masks and props were created by the children.
A clothes line was added to reenact the story The Hat. Felt clothes were designed by the children and teachers to be used in the clothes line.
The letter of the week was O, the children had the opportunity to use different tools; O stamps, tracing O’s, dobbing O’s, and O word cards.
In our science exploration we had the opportunity to paint with pine needles. Chisel treasures out of ice, manipulate snow and oobleck.

Have a great weekend!,
Arelhy

Veronica Daycare Photos: Foot Prints

From December 13, 2013:
Today we concluded our conversations around Dr. Seuss and his books! We created a chart where all of the children voted on their favorite book from this week. Today we read The Foot Book, which was super silly. The children really enjoyed this book. After reading this book I then asked everyone to predict who they thought would have the smallest feet and who they thought would have the biggest feet.
Here are their predictions:

Smallest feet
Zofia- Ian
Audrey R- Charlie
Eric U. - Charlie
Lila- Audrey R
Audrey A- Olivia
Ian- Charlie
Charlie- Audrey R
Largest Feet
Ben- Zofia
Wyeth- Yael
Yael- Lila
Veronica- Lucas (Note from Patricia: She guessed correctly!)
Olivia- Zofia
Lucas- Eric U.

Today’s activities fostered cognitive, language, science, and gross motor development

Max Daycare Photos: Ice Activity

Hello Parents,

Here are pictures of today’s ice activity! The children had fun touching and tasting the ice cubes as they played. They would laugh at one another whenever  they lost their grasp on the ice! It was a great sensory/science activity.

Back in November 2013, Max was in the Infant 2 room. However, they would periodically bring him into the Toddler 1 room if there was space in the Toddler 1 classroom. He has transitioned to Toddler 1 now and he loves it.

Hello Preschool Families,
Today our friend Felix brought in a book for us to read that corresponded with this week’s curriculum. The book was called Flashing Fire Engines by Tony Mitton and Ant Parker. This rhyming book touched on everything that we’ve been learning about this week! The children absolutely loved this book and it also included new vocabulary words.
New words that we went over in detail today:
·         Fireproof
·         Crew
·         Gear
·         Nozzle
·         Tanks
·         Extinguish

After reading the book I then asked everyone to reflect on this past week and to tell me one thing that they learned. Here are their answers!
Ben- There’s a team of firefighters.
Lila- firefighters wear masks.
Zofia- They wear helmets and masks to protect them.
Audrey R- They put out fire with water.
Audrey A- K is the letter of the week. Kangaroo is for K.
Eric U- Karen begins with K.
Wyeth- They drive fire trucks.
Eric N- Firefighters psshhh water.
Yael- Firefighters wear helmets.
Felix- Firefighters wear boots to protect their feet.
Charlie- Mommy and Daddy are not firefighters. Sirens!
Ethan- Fire trucks go woo-woo
Veronica- K makes the Kuh sound. Firefighters also spray milk to put out the fires…just kidding; water!
